Gemini conversation history is coming

Seamless continuity and privacy

With this update, users can pick up where they left off in their AI interactions. History will persist only within a single app; for instance, a conversation in the Google Docs side panel will not appear in Google Sheets. Furthermore, conversations remain private. Even if a file is shared, other users with access to that file will not be able to see your individual conversation history.

Availability and eligible licenses

This feature will be available to Google Workspace customers with the following plans:

• Business: Starter, Standard, and Plus.
• Enterprise: Starter, Standard, and Plus.
• Education: Education Plus and the Teaching & Learning add-on.
• Others: Frontline Plus.
• AI Add-ons: Google AI Pro for Education.
• Consumer: Google AI Pro and Ultra users.

Administrator controls and data management

This launch includes two new controls for administrators to ensure data management aligns with organizational policies:

• Manual deletion: Admins can decide if users are allowed to manually delete their history (ON by default).
• Automated retention: Admins can set periods to automatically delete inactive chats after three months, 18 months, or three years. Conversations are stored indefinitely by default.

Rollout timeline

• February 25, 2026: Admin controls become available.
• March 3, 2026: Rollout begins for Gemini Alpha and Workspace Labs users.
• March 17, 2026: General rollout starts for all eligible Workspace customers.
